Medical Plan


For 2019, medical rates will increase slightly. The exact amount of the increase will depend on who you are covering and which plan you choose during the benefits enrollment period. The rates for the Basic plan will stay the same or decrease in 2019.

Sysco will continue to provide you with tools, resources and education so you can make the most of your benefits dollars each year and do your best to manage your healthcare costs. Rates for each plan will be available in the enrollment system on the Total Rewards Café beginning October 8.


Even if you are not making changes to your benefits for 2019, make sure you log in to the enrollment system on the Total Rewards Café, October 8 – 22, and change your tobacco user designation to ensure your medical coverage records are accurate in 2019.


No. The tobacco user surcharge will not increase in 2019.


Yes. For 2019, associates will continue to have four medical plan options to choose from—the Basic, HSA, PPO and HMO plans—that offer variety and selection.


Each of the medical plans has pros and cons and provide options for the various individual needs of our associates. There are tools, however, to help make the choice easier for you:

  • The Helpful Tools section on provides additional information to help the decision-making process.
  • Starting on October 8, you can use the cost estimator tool in the Total Rewards Café. The estimator tool asks you to provide personal details, including doctor visits in a typical year, prescriptions, etc to give you the estimated out-of-pocket costs for each plan.
  • You can use the Express Scripts Rx tool to estimate prescription drug costs under each of the medical plans


Yes. The Telehealth service, administered by MDLIVE, is available to all associates enrolled in the four national plans administered by BlueCross BlueShield. Please note, the Telehealth service is available where permitted by state. The Telehealth doctor’s visit copay is  $25.

The 2018 Wellness Rewards Program window ended on November 1, 2017. If you and your spouse completed the requirements by November 1, 2017, and earned your Wellness Reward for 2018, your reward will be deposited in your healthcare expense account in January 2018! Don’t be concerned if your Wellness Reward amount is not displayed in the enrollment system on the Total Rewards Café in 2017. Your 2018 Wellness Reward amount will not appear in the system until January 2018.

Please note: If you and your spouse completed the requirements early — by October 1, 2017 — and did not choose to receive your reward a different way during 2018 Benefits Enrollment, you will receive your reward as a credit to the medical plan premium taken from your paycheck each pay period in 2018.
